“A simple act of kindness can make a
tremendous impact on a person’s life.”

There are a number of ways that you can get involved with our work.

We are currently seeking volunteers and sponsors for the following:

  • GT Achieve Mentors - GT Achieve is a mentoring program to connect Greater Than college students with professionals in the Portland Metro Area who can provide additional support throughout the student's college journey and to help build their professional networks. Please email Jessica Arzate, Senior Director of Impact, if you'd like to be a GT Achieve Mentor.

  • Volunteer at Alder Elementary - There are ongoing volunteer opportunities at Alder. Each year, we host Back to School Night, Winter Carnival, Career Day, and 5th Grade Promotion Ceremony at Alder. These events are made possible with volunteers who contribute their time, energy, and resources to ensure students have positive, memorable experiences at school. Please email Jessica Arzate, Senior Director of Impact, if you'd like to help at Alder Elementary.

  • Backpack Bash - Every summer, we collect school supplies and donations of backpacks from all over the Portland Metro area to distribute to Greater Than students. These donations help ensure that our students show up with everything they need for the first day of school. If you'd like to donate items or backpacks for Backpack Bash or your organization would like to host a school supply drive, please email Lilian Ongelungel, our Communication and Events Manager, for more information.

You can also support our mission by making a direct contribution to Greater Than.

"Sitting down and sharing a book with a child never gets old. I loved reading with Fodmo through the SMART program at Alder and saw her improve in many ways throughout the year. At the beginning of the year, she was so quiet and hardly said a word. By the end of the year, she was asking tons of questions and full of sass! Volunteering with IHAD at Alder is a fun and worthwhile way to contribute to bettering our community, and also broadens my world view.” - Jessica Bowersox, YLC member
